Hello Friends,

As we are now smack dab into 2012 with that brand new year smell, I find myself wanting to reflect on a few moments I enjoyed last year. I hope you'll indulge me. There is a lot that I am grateful for. I loved playing music with my friends and family (especially for a good cause) for really amazing audiences. Here are some top 2011 highlights:

Earth Day Sacramento (more like Spring/Summer) - This was an amazing and colorful day full of great vibes and a sense of world community. It was nice being asked to headline this very important event as it felt really good supporting our mother earth. The BBQ smells were amazing, people were chillaxin, dancing and the weather was perfect. A brightly colored mural provided the majestic and surrealistic backdrop for the day's music. Longtime friend, singer-songwriter, Brooke Aved aka Napa's own "songbird" flew back to the nest for a highly anticipated CD pre-release party for her new album 'Great Escape' (find on iTunes) at Downtown Joe's. After having worked tirelessly in Austin, TX for the last 4 years, she unveiled her new work via a spectacular multimedia extravaganza. I played the role of the "DJ" as well as served as a sound-tech and additional entertainment. We were joined by drummer David Parker playing the role of "bassist", singer-songwriter Jef Madnik lent his talents as did my drummer, Ram Hatley playing congas. It was a great turnout and a lot of fun!

4th of July - I joined my good friends, Audio Farm for a grand display of independence in Downtown Napa. There were thousands of people there! Also playing were Hall One and Ralph Woodson closed the show. My friends and I all got snugly/cozy next to the river at the Veteran's Park and we enjoyed magnificent fireworks. A great day! Thanks City of Napa.

Napa City Nights -TASB (The Amber Snider Band - Aaron Snider - lead guitar, Dave Youdell - Bass, Ram Hatley - drums) had the esteemed honor (and pleasure) of once again playing at one of our most beloved concerts of the year, Napa City Nights. We were greeted by many enthusiastic and friendly faces as we delivered a new line up of fresh-original songs as well as a live CD of the previous year's Napa City Nights Live 2010 (iTunes $9.90). Also performing that super-fabulous day were Sean Garvey and Lansdale Station. And even with elements of danger (the stage lighting almost fell on a crew member), this event felt like a big hug to me :)

Mother's Day Show with The Pine Dogz - It was a very special Mother's Day this year when my parents duo and my band joined forces in Suisun at the Mother's Day Artisan Fair. Here is the article written by The Daily Republic. We later did a reprise when they invited me to sit in with them for their "Old World Christmas" Suisun, Holiday show.

Vacaville's First Country Music Festival at The Elmira Cabin - Because our genre of music varies: Folk/Rock/Blues/Country aka "Ambericana" We were invited by our new friends the Jesse Woodside Band (amazing original country music and really nice fellas, too) invited us to take part in this monumental (and hopefully reoccurring) event in the most perfect backyard vacation spot. Just in the outskirts of Vacaville, away from the hub bub of outlet stores and highway traffic, past the rows of corn and right next to the old timey railroad tracks, lies a hidden little magic town called Elmira. In this large open field setting is a cabin that is reminiscent of an old gold mining saloon but with modern day amenities like pool tables, televisions, two bars, indoor and outdoor stages and dance floors (I was the first musician to spill a beer on the newly built backyard stage!), a fire pit, free peanuts that you can throw right on the floor (but just remember someone has to clean them up) and catered BBQ (for the festival). The bar owner/manager is a young, hip character named Travis Schecter who has transformed this backwoods venue into a hotspot. Gussied up in our finest country duds outside under a canopy of trees, we felt right at home. Also performing that day were Taryn Cross (from Washington) & 48 Straight.Yee haw!

Solano County Fair - Thanks to my good friends at Ozcat Radio (Ozcat Radio 89.5 FM KZCT ~ Streaming Vallejo's Independent Music to the Known World) I was once again invited to play music at my childhood family fair. I have so many fond memories of going there as a little girl with my family and watching musicians play on the very stage I played on! To some people, that may not be a big deal. But for me, it makes me feel so grateful for the life that I have, small prayers that have been answered and that I get to live my dream. It always seemed that the musicians on stage were having the most fun out of any of the adults I saw and I knew from a young age that I wanted to do that as well someday (although painfully shy as a child... just ask my mom, I use to hide behind her leg all the time). The experience was very full circle for me. This year, I played what was known as the "International Stage" and also performing there that day were gospel music dance troupes and Hawaiin performers. Afterwards, my sister Heather and I rode the rides and checked out the animals at the petting zoo. We had a blast!

Downtown Joe's - The band and I played a couple shows this year at Downtown Joe's (there's no place like home) and each time, it felt really great. We have a history at this venue. I personally have been playing there for ten years now (I know....where does the time go?) and took up residence there weekly along with my band from 2007-2009. Longtime friends father and son photographers Dana Lyon (from Studio II (two) Gallery - Napa) & Jeremy Lyon came out and took some pictures (thank you). We got to hang out with tons of cool peeps and made some more great memories. Thank you Joe's!

Carneros della Notte Winery - Harvest/Birthday Party. This year, we again celebrated Carneros della Notte Winery's founder Dave Harmon's birthday and annual night time grape picking party. Talk about the epitome of cool. Playing music in a gorgeous Napa Valley vineyard under the stars while our audience is stomping grapes? Unforgettable. Great people, great wine, great food. I drank a glass of Flava Flav's wine (yes he has his own wine and it is meant to be crunk). We brought the RV and camped out for the night next to his 1985 Ferrari and helicopter. I pooped out before the campfire sing-a-long (sounded good folks). Watch this video to find out more information on Dave and his annual Harvest Party.

Freemark Abbey - Harvest parties in Napa Valley are plentiful and we were lucky to play at one of the most historic wineries of the last century. (Rustic flashback music starts now) The story began in 1886, when winemaker Josephine Tychson established the original winery
along Route 29 in St. Helena where Freemark Abbey still stands. It was the first female run winery in California and you read more about this here. Back to the 2011 Harvest party... Freemark Abbey provided a fine-dining, yet warm and friendly atmosphere for their wineclub members. They REALLY want people to have a good time (that's why they hired us, right? :) Everything was top notch from the oysters, Cajun BBQ (the best this side of the Mississippi), amazing desserts to wines that some people call "a religious experience". There was a grape crushing contest where teams of people jumped inside large vats of grapes, got their feet wet and had a good ole time. This is a must see winery when you visit the Napa Valley. You can also hit up Silverado Brewing Company for food on your tasting tour as it is right next door. Speaking of...

The Silverado Brewing Company - we played a Memorial Day Kick off Party there this year as well. Some old friends were there. The food is always good....

Also, while wearing my solo artist hat, I ventured into Sonoma for “Songwriters In Sonoma” brought to you by MusicNomad.com and Sonoma Valley Music Store) held at Meadowcroft Winery tasting room in Sonoma, CA where we three lucky songwriters played to an audience of true music lovers (I can always tell because you could hear a pin drop in there). I was honored to share the stage with Jim Corbett, who has performed throughout the North Bay for years and has even created a music program for children, while entertaining students at various schools throughout Sonoma County. Also playing was as Sonoma native, Mike Lounibos, who performed songs, "that will leave you breathless, and then heal you." As a musical story teller and a country balladeer, Lounibos writes songs that draw deep from the well of human emotion (ok so I grabbed that last part from their websites but let me tell you in my own words, these are very talented, approachable and genuinely nice guys). I was very happy to meet some new friends in Sonoma and am very encouraged to see all the hard work that they pour into promoting original music as well as their communities through music. FYI - Meadowcroft winery has great selections of wine as well as a friendly staff (this would be another great stop for you on your wine country tasting tour - I hope you are writing all this down :)

Train & Maroon 5 show - Though I didn't perform, another really memorable 2011 moment was when my friend Sammy and I took a road trip to see a Train & Maroon 5 show (she was invited to take pictures by Train). See a few of my cheesy totally unprofessional pictures from that amazing concert here.

Farmers Market Tour 2011 - This year, I have had a wonderful time playing solo at many farmers markets in and around the Bay Area: San Francisco, Martinez, Walnut Creek, Brentwood, Jack London Square (Oakland), Alameda, to name a few. I plan on doing more in 2012 and branching into new territories. Please check my website for more details.

A few more words on the subject... Farmers' markets are great community gathering places — places where neighbors can get great products, stroll, chat with one another, pick up some fresh fruits and vegetables, and feel connected to their community. Many communities use farmers' markets as the centerpiece of larger community gatherings that may also incorporate music, children's activities, or arts and crafts.

Farmers' Markets are an essential part of California's agricultural economy. Farmers' Markets provide outlets for California's small family farms to sell the fruits of their harvest. Many of the farms selling in farmers' markets do not sell through any other outlets. These farms are the employers and economic generators of their rural Northern and Central California communities.

Farmers' Markets are also good for the environment. They support locally-grown products, rather than those grown overseas and transported to the Bay Area via ship, road or rail. Small California farmers have also been at the forefront of the organic movement, protecting soil and water quality through the restricted use of chemical agents.

When you shop a Certified Farmers' Market, you know the fresh products you're buying are all California Grown, and sold to you by the very farmers that planted, nurtured and harvested the crops!

Good Joo Joo in V-town

This week's Good Joo Joo deed turned into an unexpected political campaign stop for a nameless candidate running for Vallejo City Council. Unaware as I was setting up for the room full of 25 seniors and their families at Windsor Manor care home in Vallejo, Ca, that I was only providing entertainment until the “Special guest” arrived as was announced by the coordinator of the dinner. I just rolled with the punches, I was volunteering so I suppose it didn’t matter in which capacity though I was there to entertain the residents not support a politician I knew nothing about. The good spin on the story? I found out Vallejo isn't bankrupt any more although there is still a long way to go before we have enough fire-fighters and police persons for the entire population. I already sent in my ballot with my vote to have marijuana taxed to pay for some of the city's needs as there are quite a few cannabis clubs in Vallejo now. It is becoming a mini Amsterdam (minus the red lights). The main concern shouldn't be whether the issue of having so many clubs is "right" or "wrong" because that is irrelevant. More importantly, is it "right" or "wrong" to have to live with so many potholes in the streets, trash on the side of the roads, unanswered 911 calls, etc? It seems like a win-win situation for medicinal love proceeds to be spread all around the under-appreciated city by the bay.

All in all, it was worth volunteering my time (and PA) not just to become more informed on local issues but also to hear everyone sing along to Elvis Presley’s “Love Me Tender”. That one was for you, Francisco.

The good news is our tomatoes are finally ripe!

We have been busy little bees performing this past month and in August, we will be hitting the studio again. We have been connecting with some really great sound engineers and are excited to finish our project. Stay tuned...

Cooking Matters Farmers' Market Brunch - Sunday, June 12

Fresh Approach's "Cooking Matters" program teaches free cooking and nutrition classes to low-income families around the Bay Area. All classes are taught by volunteer chefs, nutritionists, and foodies who share their time and skills with adults, kids, and families in need.

Doors will open at 9:45, and brunch will be served at 10:30. Seating will end at 10:30. Come early to get your place at the table! Kids under 12 are free - if you are bringing your kids, please email them and tell them how many are coming.

It is already November and the air outside my window feels like warm bath water. Summer lives on! I have had many experiences since my last post and don't really know where to start... Lots of show, a live cd release, the passing away of a dear friend...

I managed to avoid my computer all day yesterday as an attempt to take some kind of staycation after planning a funeral for my father figure and meeting some work deadlines last week (I am developing ipad apps with a friend) I felt I needed some R & R. I played my guitar all day yesterday and then ended my day with a nice little veg session which included an outdoor candlit dinner then ice cream, wine and 30 Rock.

I also finshed a song for my dearly departed family member. I tried for 3 years to write a song and I couldn't until he was free and no longer in pain. The song has healing powers for me.

Let's see, what have I been up to....shows.

After weeks of rehearsing our arses off for a show that never happened (we learned a bunch of cover songs for it), the band and I went back to our roots playing at Downtown Joe's ion Napa (our old stomping ground aka our 2nd livingroom). We added a 5th musican to our troop, Cousin Al (keyboards). He is very talented; a great improvisor with an oober-happy demeanour.

TASB (The Amber Snider Band) also played at The Rellik Tavern in Benicia where we showcased some original video imagery that they graciously played on their television screens. This added a new element to our show. We were able to capture the audience's attention in a compelling way. Photos of my garden at various stages, a roller coaster ride at Disneyland, random footage from previous shows, a big hodge podge collage.

Aaron and I just did a concert at my nieces' school along with my parents. It was called "Fallapolooza" and everyone had on thei Halloween costume. I was the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp version) and he was a convict (this instantly bonded him with the maintenance guy who thought it would be fun to stage an arrest for everyone though he was only kidding.

I also just recently did a show in Hayward (solo) with Grace Woods and Deborah Crooks (and their bands), both of whom are great singer-songwriter-performers. I even sat in on Grace's Trio act doing background vocals. That was a lot of fun and I stayed until the owner of the bar started yelling at everyone to get out of his place.

The Farmer's Market in Concord was fun and friendly, I had family drop by to say hello after they saw my last minute facebook posting that I would be there. Also, my favorite uncle was dog walking the parameter but could not come see me because of the "no dogs allowed" park policy. He did leave me a voice message to let me know he could hear me. Sweet! I was given a bouquet of flowers and lemon grass goats milk soap from music appreciators which totally made my day! Thank you!

I also played solo in the lobby at The Uptown theatre in Napa. The place is gorgeous and the entertainment and staff are top-notch. I will be playing there again this Saturday for a community benefit for the Napa Humane Society.

We have a photo shoot Sunday and hopefully we capture our good sides :) Alexa, Ram's wife is taking on the task as she is a talented photographer. Naturally.

Cyndi "Freakin" Lauper @ The Uptown

OK, so I took a part-time job as a volunteer usher at a theater so I could get my live music fix. So please don't envy me by thinking I have tons of disposable income which affords me to go to a couple of shows a week or something. No, I am simply a music junkie looking to mainline some magical stage action straight into my soul.

The Uptown theater is gorgeous and the acts are great so no complaints over here (except please pick up your trash when you leave). Now if I can only perform my act on a stage like the one at the Uptown Theater... (oh please, oh please, I am so ready, I was born to be on that stage! Every time I see it I want to jump around on it and sing at the top of my lungs!!). Ahem. Meanwhile, back at the ranch.

Now imagine this. Cobalt blue lights streaming down endlessly long folds of drapery, enter a cherry-red ferociously wild and curly head of hair (think 80's crimped meets Marie Antoinette)and a short cheetah print mini skirt paired with a black-lace fringy wrap dress. Top that off with an amazing black shiny belt and platform heels to match! The woman knows how to dazzle her audience with appearance alone that is fo sho.

She tore into her first number with the megagusto of a cannon firing into the audience, including dancing down the aisles (usually people work up to this move) but she jumped right into the water. Amazing.

Granted, she did lose a few audience member's attention (most likely due to ADTD = Attention Deficit Theater Disorder) when she told lovely and endearing (though at times lengthy) stories in between songs... but on the other hand... Scaw-rew em'.

Now I feel like I have known the woman all my life because she feels comfortable enough to be herself on stage. This is hard to do yet she somehow made it look easy. What a pro...

She did many great, beloved blues songs and even some songs of her own. I am glad she did "True Colors", "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and "She Bop" because if she hadn't, there may have been a riot (just an amateur observation).

I watched in awe as this woman who's music I grew up listening to, did stage gymnastics that I have never even considered and all I could think of was wow, she must be in really good shape.... vocally and otherwise. Sure, her band was smokin' hot, too, including harmonica legend, Charlie Musselwhite. What was extra special was hearing her play the lap steel guitar (she was great).

Tonight, I have learned a lot about showmanship as well as an artist's responsibility from Cyndi (we are only on a first name basis in my head, I couldn't even get close enough to her for a decent picture). But as she says and I quote "that's neither here nor there".

My point is that she used her larger-than-life "stage power" to help others feel "empowered" (I am not really quoting anyone just using the quote symbols for emphasis). She is a huge supporter of those who are treated unfairly and unequally in our society, specifically the gay and lesbian community and she spent time speaking out about Civil Rights and how change requires action from everyone. She is not only an amazing singer-songwriter-performer, she is also an activist/humanitarian and an inspiration to us all.

With stories of her humble beginnings as a DJ, and in the most adorable east coast Betty Boop voice and with enormous heart, she told her audience "so don't give up on yourself, cause' you neva know".

Thank you Cyndi, I needed that.

I have three words for you. Cyndi "Freakin" Lauper! Her and her band were amazing at the Uptown Theatre last night in Napa... (for more on this, please visit my blog at: ambersnider.blogspot.com)

Also, as the guys and I are wrapping up summer 2010, we'd like to thank you for supporting us at our various shows over the last few months. It was tons of fun! We saw old friends and made new ones (if you are reading this, you are our friend).

Don't worry if you have been crazy busy or meant to see a show but couldn't find a sitter, etc. You will have your chance.

In fact, this Saturday, August 21st, we are playing at The Rellik Tavern in Benicia from 9pm to Midnight!

Note: The Rellik Tavern is a happening spot so you may want to dandy up... in any case, they will let you in...21 and over please....

Relay For Life - 2010

Not too many shows that we have done have the emotional impact of this important benefit for cancer research on Saturday, August 7, 2010 in Vallejo, CA. Raising over $264,000 and creating awareness, the event was a phenomenal success!

Our band played the last two hours of the event as well as for the ceremony at the end. As we performed our original song, "Morning Angels" and drummer, Ram Hatley and I sang "Let go of the fear", we looked over to the stadium bleachers and saw "HOPE" spelled out in candlelight. We had one of those amazing moments that made us feel like we were being put to some good use. Ten minutes later the same bleachers spelled out "CURE" magically as the ceremony was under way. As we were leaving by way of golf cart, a group of people were singing in unison as I was barely able to make out their silhouettes.

Many participants gave freely of their energies to support this worthy cause and made this two day Relay For Life event spectacular. It was truly an honor to be a part of it.

Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Sparks, Keith, Jeremy as well as all event crew for taking care of us.

For the Amber Snider Band, there's bar gigs, there's festival gigs, there's private party gigs.

Fun, sure. A few bucks? Usually. But few have the emotional impact of performing at next weekend's Vallejo Relay for Life, a fund-raiser and community gathering on behalf of the American Cancer Society.

"It really is a pleasure to be part of this event," said Räm Hatley, the ASB drummer. "It's all about raising awareness and celebrating life, both of which I believe are powerful tools when it comes to battling this disease."

Hatley saw the importance of attitude when it comes to cancer recovery.

"My grandmother dealt with some cancer issues and iron-willed a few more years before she was done," Hatley said. "I think that education and awareness go a long way and I can't wait to bring some positive vibes to the party. It's going to be a great time."

Part of an extensive entertainment schedule Aug. 7 at St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School's track oval, the ASB includes lead vocalist Amber Snider, Aaron Snider, and Dave Youdell.

Hatley said it's Amber's original tunes that attracted him to the band. No cover tunes for this kid from the Southwest with the unusual name. Or not, depending on origin.

"I'm a yoga kid," he said laughing. "It (Ram) is a pretty common name in India. Not so common for an Oklahoma farm boy. But I guess I'm kind of a by-product of the sociological melting pot of the '60s and '70s."

Räm -- pronounced Rom, as in CD-Rom -- says there's nothing like performing live.

"There is a collective sense of self, stylistically, emerging that hasn't been there in the past," he said, comparing it to studio recording. "It's the transition that happens in an original band; from playing what you think people want to hear to playing what you want people and yourself to hear. We've been talking about what performance is and how to create an intimate musical experience that draws attention with original material."

The public needs to hear Amber's tunes, he said.

"It's kind of a cross between modern pop and Lucinda Williams with a little Sticky Fingers style Rolling Stones and The Band thrown in," Hatley said. "Originality and palatability. If you don't like it, we may need to check your pulse."

A different first name. An all-original band. The only thing missing is a Czech wife. Bingo. Hatley's bride is, indeed, from Prague.

"I'll spare you the details but I do have a few ideas on immigration based on the experience," he said. "We're grateful every day to be together and get back to Prague whenever possible. It truly is a beautiful city."

Hatley's father-in-law is a jazz clarinet player and saxophonist.

"It's amazing that, with music being our only common language, we are as close as we are," he said. "That really is a wonderful relationship for me."

As for his wife's English, "it may not be flawless, but she can say anything with that accent and I don't mind hearing it," Hatley said.

Though the Relay for Life is outdoors with people walking the track and others around their 24-hour tents, it's bound to be a better situation than some gigs.

Take bar mitvahs. Good for the kid celebrating. Sometimes not so good for the band.

"It sounds fun in theory until they send you sheet music requests," Hatley said. "I've seen the best sight readers go down in flames trying to play that stuff."

As for drummer jokes, Hatley's likely heard 'em all. And he rolls with the beat.

"What does it mean when the drummer has drool coming out of both sides of his mouth?" Hatley said. "The stage is level."

In the heart of any city is a "Downtown". There was even a popular song written about it because it is so special. For years now, I have been lucky enough to be a part of creating music in the heart of Napa even when it was merely an idea to have a fantastic outdoor amphitheater. Sure, back then, it was fun to play in the tiny gazebo at Veteran's Park and there were a few cars that would honk as they drove by and waved in support... and I remember feeling excited to hear of the big amphitheater plans and thought "hey that would be neat". Flash forward a few years and no longer are musicians playing to a few park benches full of gleeful listeners, now we are a part of something much greater. Massive amphitheater concerts with children dancing (please keep them away from the speakers though for the preservation of their hearing). People even dress up their pets to join in the fun. It is full on family fun for all ages with a professional sound crew who work hard at doing what they do best... putting on one heck of a show! (Every Friday throughout the summer)

There was a sea of happy faces surrounding the stage at Napa City Nights and many were recognizable to us in some way or another. Playin a show like this can be somewhat like showing up at your own birthday party or the scene in the movie "Titanic" when Rose walks through the ballroom and everybody she's known in life and loves is standing there smiling and cheering at her. It can be very surreal and dream-like. You never know who you might see...

My only regret from this show was wearing my seemingly cool rock star pleather pants simply because I lost a few pounds and could "finally" fit into them. This jolt of enthusiasm overshadowed whether they actually looked flattering or not. My style watchdog pointed out later that I should never wear them again (I didn't know I had one either). The pants self-destructed at the end of the show magically splitting right down the middle in a "wardrobe malfunction" thankfully and now I will never have to deal with them again. Hey not everyone can be Olivia Newton John in Grease (note to self)!

I even saw my old high school teacher and anytime I see someone from that era of my life I remember how much of a handful I was and how much music has helped me grow as a person. Back then music and theater was a great outlet for me as is for any youth (troubled or otherwise). Though I was self-conscious about my speckled past, my former teacher didn't seem to recall what a pain I was (or who I was at all) so that made me feel a lot better.

All and all, I believe our band put on our best show ever! The sound crew was great and we were lucky enough to get a recording of the show.

We are grateful to again have been a part of the Napa City Nights Concerts and would like to thank the crew as well as the City of Napa.

What an amazing Marina adventure! Our band barely traveled a few miles to be transported into an island-esq oasis full of beauty and good times. One band after another made their way onto white, canopy-covered stage with surrounded by soft, feathery trees swaying almost in time to the music around them.

This year, there were a lot of great vendor booths to visit which made for an exciting experience for those in search of treasures.

Though we started slight later than was scheduled (Due to the sheer volume of musical acts), we took to the stage with gusto right as the weather cooled to perfection.

Mama Bear "Diana Wallis" joined us in a couple of tunes. Check it out!

Our very enthusiastic audience gave stellar performances themselves with applause and dancing (we finally have the dance video we always wanted - click here). Thank you, thank you everyone and especially to the Glen Cove Marina folks and Richard Freedman at The Vallejo Times Herald for another great festival!

Ani DiFranco at The Uptown

After nearly ten years of empty marquee promises, I finally stood in ,line at the Uptown Theater in Napa comp tickets in hand (courtesy of R. Freedman at The Vallejo Times Herald). This was a monumental occasion for me. I reminisced with longtime Napkins about having seen a movie or two back in the day when it was a really good deal if you didn't mind being poked in the rear by a cushion spring. Ah, the days of our misspent youth. Even George Altamura was there and he, himself has been quoted to have frequented The Uptown when he was young (back when they allowed smoking in the theater). Of course, he had the main influence on the restoration of The Uptown Theater and I am guessing it now looks a lot like the original. Many people have been working hard to make sure of that. Now to Ani...

I hadn't seen Ani in years. Not that we are BFFs or anything but I have seen her perform live a handful of times and even saw her documentary not too long ago. She always stays fresh in my mind. Tonight, it was just her and a her bass player, Todd Sickafoose. God bless em'. They really carried the show. She always has a lot of energy and he really complimented her style well. Playing an upright bass no less. Ani is now a mommy and she talked about that a bit. It must be life transforming. She is balancing her new role as a mom while still rocking!

The opening act was a couple of locals from Oakland and San Francisco, respectively.
They had a really great vibe. I was excited to see and hear how so few performers could create such a wonderfully fulfilling sound.

Luckily, I was seated in front of fellow musician, Charles Hersey (or Charlie as I know him) and friend which just added to the already warm, home-townie feel I was getting from being at the Uptown Theater in general. I really cannot believe something so great is so close! I think it is filling in a lot of the music gap from Konocti being gone. I really think there is room enough for many music venues in the area. It's as it should be....

My husband, Aaron and bass player, Dave also enjoyed the show and was happy to be there. They are both huge Ani fans as well and to cap off the evening, my cousin, Chynna was there and gave us a big hug out of the blue! She lives in Fairfield and is also a big fan of Ani's. All together, it was a fabulous night!

Dixon Farmer's Market

When I arrived at the "Women's Improvement Park" in downtown Dixon, it was after I stopped at a gas station to ask directions to the "Women's Empowerment Park". Even though I had the name totally wrong, I was close... The attendant literally had no idea what I was talking about until I said "Farmer's Market". Then he knew what I was talking about. That was good, at least people know where to get their veggies.

I decided on a bigger amp this time which carries better in an open space that lets sound fly anywhere it wants. I aimed myself at a nice little family-run crepes tent but they didn't seem to mind. They fed me a half-price veggie crepe with feta and green olives. It was probably the best crepe I've ever had in my life. The guy actually "studied" crepes in France.

Because a nearby train passed through from time to time at the park, I thought that would really bring to life Johnny Cash's "Folsom Blues" which starts with the line "I hear that train a comin', it's rolling around the bend".." It brought another sensory element to moment and it really is the little things in life that makes this girl happy :)

Last time I was there, I met a couple of nice kids who helped me out a little by carrying stuff and I gave them a couple cd's. This time, they were there with about 10 others and they all looked very bored. I took a break and walked away for a second and out of nowhere, one of them takes to the microphone and starts beat boxing! And then another kid grabs the mike from him and starts shouting out to his friends. Of course I had to shut that down because they were horrible and just before I started playing again, another kid asked if he could beat box, too. Now I have been in charge of many open mikes in my time and I know how the natives could get restless for self-expression but this wasn't one of them. Plus, I told them if their friends hadn't of already done so without asking first I may have allowed them to. Maybe next time they will become more chaos control.

Anyway, as soon as the wind died down, the weather was warm and perfect. Some people were setting up movie night on a big screen and their speakers eventually took over the park which was fine by me. Four hours is a lot of time to fill with sound.

All in all, there was face painting, a spider man jumpy for the kids and lots of good food. A great place to be!

The Castro, SF

Yesterday, I made it over to The Castro Farmer's Market in San Francisco where I played music for almost 4 hours. I watched the dense fog flow by overhead and even felt a sprinkle on the 2nd day of Summer 2010. I had slight technical difficulties setting up with my new battery-powered amp that puts out just enough amps to make me really work for it. A nice passerby came over and started helping me set up, calling me by my first name and telling me about his day. He runs a music day camp for children and this year he received a grant to help him. I love hearing stories like this and was grateful for his help. Even though I may go somewhere without knowing anyone, someone always manages to make me feel right at home. So thank you.

The Castro folks were pretty nice as they trickled through on their way to their destinations. I even sold a CD and made a few extra bucks. I have hung out there before with an old friend who use to live down the street. I love the wide diversity in fashion. From pink boas and chaps to a vibrantly colored suit made of small rubber bands, it was an exotic visual feast for the eyes.

I played my usual set of songs and the face painter next to me played peek-a-boo with two small boys who were obviously twins. One had a fully painted tiger face and the other was all natural. The children squealed with joy as the happy-go-lucky face painter in a tecni-colored, candy-stripped suit with balloons attached to her crocks acted surprised every time she heard the little lion "roar". They played this game for a good thirty minutes. They were extremely loud but I didn't mind the entertainment. Many people couldn't keep their eyes off of their little game, it added to the fun of the market. I imagined her having her own television show because she was so good with children. She even cheered for me after almost every song "Yay Amber!!" and had the children chime in with her. It was very cold and my nose was running...I really appreciated her enthusiasm.

After a cup of hot green, Jasmin tea and a hooded jacket, I was able to last through until the end feeling myself desperately wanting a warm environment. One of the vendors shouted "closing special, five dollar ravioli"!. That sounded like music to my ears so I dipped into my tip bucket and bought dinner. Butternut squash ravioli with a bit of pesto sauce. Now that's good living! Thank you SF :)

What a strange and wonderful few weeks it has been! First we played at the Black Cat Bar and Grill in Penngrove to a few close friends and staff joined by our friend "BOXX". Then last week we had a great experience playing as a band at The Russian River Brewing Company in Santa Rosa, CA. The patrons and staff were very friendly and the sound guy, Jonathon was great. We made a lot of new friends there :) It was packed full of people partly due to the street festival happening there downtown right before we went on and partly because it is just a happening spot. I've never seen so many people walking around downtown before. The weather was perfect and there must have been 300+ people there wandering in and out, sitting at tables, the bar or dancing. So, young man at the Dixon Farmer's Market I performed at the week before, to answer the question you asked (is my band famous?), and according to your definition of famous as being known by at least 150 people, yes, The Amber Snider Band is quite famous :) I was told we were even mentioned on the local radio station, KRSH in Santa Rosa which never hurts. We played at The Last Day Saloon in Santa Rosa a couple days later and had less of a crowd though we didn't mind too terribly because we were very happy to be playing there and hope to be back soon. We met some of Ram's friends that he has known for years; which was nice. They stayed for the whole show :) The next morning, I went to Vacaville to perform at the Farmer's market from 9a-noon. It was very warm and windy and reminded me of violent bathwater. I had to make sure that when I opened my mouth while singing, nothing flew in there on account of how windy it was. I barely had a voice that morning because I was so tired from singing at the top of my lungs the night before in Santa Rosa but I made it through. Thank you to everyone who threw a lit bit of change into my bucket, you bought me some fresh produce :) Later that Saturday night, Aaron and I went to San Francisco and played a benefit show for Rocket Dog Animal Rescue at El Rio. We opened for a singer-songwriter named Deborah Crooks and her band was very good. You can check out the video of that night below (I didn't turn my camera on when Aaron and I were playing though I could've sworn I did - oh poop). I have some exciting news to share with you...

I am happy to say that Mr. Aaron Snider and I will be celebrating our one year wedding anniversary next week and we are happily heading out of town :)

On Sat May 8th, please join me in Vacaville for the first Wine Stroll this year. I hear they are even having a car show! It's all taking place in Town Square and along Main, Merchant and Parker Streets (please check www.ambersnider.com for my showtime next week).

Next, our dear friend, Brooke Aved will be arriving in Napa on Weds. May 19th. Currently based in Austin, Texas, Napa Valley Singer-Songwriter, Brooke Aved will perform a very special concert in Napa at Silo's Music Club with friends Steve Siders, Eddy Mac & Myself. Expect a wonderful evening of original Folk/Rock & Adult Contemporary music. Conscience

In my studies, I am learning about various ways of thinking. The question was posed to me "do all people have a conscience" and "where does a conscience come from?".

I think people are all born with a conscience and some people ignore their inner voice so much that they can no longer hear it. I have always heard friends and family advise me to "follow my gut" or "listen to your instincts". In the text I am reading, the author Vincent Ruggiero says, "conscience is the most important single guide to right and wrong an individual can have."

Of course, there have been many times that I simply chose not to listen. When that happens, I can usually feel it in the pit of my stomach. As children, we are so sensitive to love and pain and the world around us and we do not wish any harm on anyone. There is a feeling of distinct rightness and wrongness. It is very clear. Ruggiero tells us to "follow our conscience, but not blindly." It is important to examine our own conscience for "moral growth".

As we grow older, make mistakes and get battered through life, it sometimes becomes harder to see what is distinctly right or wrong. Many people cannot tell the difference anymore and simply rely on the government of others to create laws as a substitute or the media's sensationalism to dictate what is morally right or wrong. There is a disconnect between their own sense of right and wrong and what the world dictates. There becomes moral shades of gray as opposed to of black and white.

I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year and welcome 2010! It feels like such a milestone already. I am submitting to all of the fairs and festivals I can think of for this year and the band is ready. We had our first rehearsal in months last Sunday and we sounded as together as ever. It was nice to have a small break (though I kept playing solo shows here and there) we welcomed some changes during the last part of the year and in general needed a bit of band downtime.

I am pursuing a marketing degree as well as pursuing licensing deals for the over 100 songs I have been writing for the last 10 years. I am also releasing all my music digitally for now. It is a lot of work but I love it.

Last year I had the honor of meeting and performing with some wonderful and talented singer-songwriters. Grace Woods and Vanessa Verlee.

Hello there! I am blessed to have so many friends and so many of them are talented.

Tonight, Saturday, Jef Madnik and his band "BOXX" has asked me to perform with their super rockin' band at Downtown Joe's from 9:30 to 12:30a

Though it starts off acoustically with special guest performers (myself included), this promises to be a high energy show!!!!

On Wednesday: Singer-songwriter, Brooke Aved, all the way from Austin, TX and doing only ONE show at Downtown Joe's WITH ME while she's here! Brookie and I are sharing the stage once again after seemlingly forever. You must catch this talented girl she has been nicknamed "songbird" for a reason :)(Special thanks to Robert at Joe's and Singer-Songwriter Brian Cline for making this possible)

Finally, I wanted to share a special experience I had recently with the Relay For Life orginazion. I am sure you have heard about the wonderful work they do for people with cancer and their families. A few weeks ago I had the honor of singing at their Luminary ceremony in Vallejo. Along Came A Snider

An entertainer's name is vital when it comes to marketing, public relations and finding work. Amber Estrada? It worked well for the Vallejo guitarist, song writer and vocalist.

Amber Snider? Well, she's had it since her May 2 marriage to Aaron Snider. It's been an adjustment, but so far, so good, the singer said.

"After years of using my maiden name, it is a little like being in the witness protection program," she said. "But I like sharing a name with the man I love. I am just glad the man I love didn't have the last name 'Bamber.'"

Yes, "Amber Bamber" might have been hard to handle. At the end of the day -- rather, the concert -- it's about the music. And Snider brings her acoustic guitar to the Benicia Historical Museum on July 16 in the third and final "Mirth & Music at the Museum;" Comic Rocky LaPorte headlines the 8 p.m. show.

For Snider, a former employee at the Vallejo Convention and Visitors Bureau, it's a chance to work some of her tried-and-true tunes and some new ones. She's figured she's written 150 songs -- basically enough for about 10 new CDs.

"But not all are good enough to record or play at shows," she said. "I also have many snippets that are needing to be completed."

The challenge is her band's undertaking "the large task of recording my catalogue with me," said Snider, who performs solo in Benicia. "It is difficult but it's worth it. Songs that we have been playing live for years, but have no real recording that we are proud of to give to people."

Snider said her songs "are like my children and I am trying not to bring any more of them into this world until I can properly feed and clothe the first ones. But, sometimes, they just create themselves. Those are most always the best ones."

It helps when one of her band mates happens to be her new husband.

"We've been making music together for six years," Snider said.

The band's bass player, Dave Youdell, is Aaron Snider's best friend since childhood and was best man at the wedding. Ram Hatley is the drummer.

"Just like a family, there's a lot of give and take," Amber said. "Everyone works hard. Everyone has their good days and bad days. And everyone has something to express that is uniquely their own. "

Who knows, a winning slot machine could be in her future. Hey, that's how much of the wedding was paid for. Amber hit a jackpot at Rolling Hills Casino, winning almost $5,000 on a progressive penny machine.

"Much of that money helped pay for our dream wedding and reception," she said. "Though it rained on our 'planned' wedding, we ended up having 120 people circled around us in my parents' living room like a big hug."

Hello friends!

A lot has happened since my last email to you. After six years of making beautiful music together on and off stage, guitarist Aaron Snider and I were officially married on May 2nd. It was a beautiful wedding near Redding that started out as an outdoor wedding but the rain had other plans for us. We ended up having 120 of our close friends and family surrounding us in my parent's living room like a big hug. It couldn't have been any better!

Well, I have legally taken the name Amber Snider and I will not be using the name Amber Estrada any more. Nor will I be using the name "Amber Lynn" as I stated in my previous email (though it actually is my name and I like it). A few people emailed me and informed me of an adult film star with that very same name. I do not want there to be ANY confusion especially when my little nieces and nephews google their favorite auntie's name :) Eeeeeeeeeeek!

Quoted by Juliet from Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet:
"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet."

Translation: It's all about the music anyway.....

Alas, our new recordings will be released under "Mom's Chicken Pot Pie" which is our new band name. We are working hard on recording the songs we have been playing at our shows.

Rocky was named “Best Male Comedian of the Year” at the Las Vegas Comedy Festival in 2002. He’s been a guest on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” and did a pilot, “The Rocky LaPorte Show.” He also appeared in Tim Allen’s “The Shaggy Dog.”
LaPorte also joined Drew Carey in 2006 in entertaining the troops in Iraq.

I am recording a song for a DVD project set to be marketed to pet lovers (in the studio tomorrow).

I have 3 piano students that are super cute and way talented (ages 6-10) Too young for myspace.....

It's been a while since my last post so I am just checking in... I have been hard at work with my band "The Hypnosis" preparing for a show in S.F. next week as well as preparing to record my new cd. The studio is about 90% finished with minor software compatablitly issues sneaking up. Why are we expected to upgrade every other month anyway?

That's a topic for a whole other day...

The rain started leaking through my roof but thanks to a little roof tar, it's all good. No big deal.

I wrote a new song that I really like. it's called "Over The Hill". Two older people looked at the title with suspicion????? It's really a positive, uplifting song about the trials and tribulations, et all... So it's for everyone who's trying to make it.

I am excited to finally record some of my now "classic" material. I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Also, I am looking forward to Brooke Aved flying in with her band from Live Music Capital, Austin, TX next week for the SF show.

Hello there, just wanted to check in. I've been hard at work building the new studio with my God-father, musician F. G. in Vallejo, CA. This project has been a year in the making. It is nearly complete. I can't wait to record there. It will be very rewarding because so much energy has been put into it. I can't thank him enough for his love, generosity and spirit.

I have a few shows coming up which I am excited about. The Solano County Fair on Wednesday, July 11th, 2007 at 12 & 3pm at the Delta Stage.

I also have the honor of participating as a judge at the Solano Stars! Competition Saturday, July 14th at the Solano County Fair and will be performing one of my original songs there as well. Move over Paula :)

I was nominated in June 2007 for a Musician's Choice Award

USA4real Artists did an honarable mention of me on their website

This year is flying by and I am planning a Fall mini-tour so please stay tuned. There are always a few pans on my griddle.

4/3/2007 - Amber Sings the National Anthem for the Napa Spinal Cord Injury Group

A few weeks ago an old friend, Erica Kennington called me up to ask me to sing the National Anthem at a basketball game. For the past 7 years she has been involved with the Napa Spinal Cord Injury Network (she just celebrated her anniversary - congrats girl!) At first I was really nervous about it but decided I couldn’t think of a better way to use my pipes. I was very glad to help out. So, though slightly overdressed and full of steroids (allergies hit me bad last week), I arrived at the Napa Valley College Campus ready to sing the mama jama of all ceremony songs in the college gymnasium. Having practiced like mad in my bathroom and even bringing the lyrics in the shower WITH me, I managed to get all the words right and hold all the notes that needed to be held.

I was sooooo nervous because I wanted very badly to inspire them but ended up being inspired BY them. A lot of the basketball players have had spinal injuries since they were children. Others were more recently injured. In either case, it was inspiring to watch them play a sport with as much vengeance and heart as any able bodied person and then some. Coming from a person who has been blessed enough not to have experience much pain in the bodily injury department, I cannot imagine how it must feel to have to fight for the simple bodily movements that are taken for granted everyday. Just imagine all the hours of intense physical therapy that coincides with those kinds of injuries that completely changes a person’s whole existence. But there they were. Dribbling the ball and shooting hoops out of wheel chairs. It was an amazing thing to see.

The event attracted local political supporters, such as Napa's Mayor Jill Techel as well as a few Napa council members sporting uniforms along with the rest of the team. Napa's Mayor, Jill Techel even played along side of the team in a wheelchair. Once again proving how much she cares about her community. I think she's the coolest mayor ever (definitely got my vote).
